NTPC Green Energy Upgraded to Schedule ‘A’ CPSE, Strengthening India’s Renewable Energy Drive

The Government of India has elevated NTPC Green Energy Limited to Schedule ‘A’ status, enhancing its operational autonomy and supporting India’s renewable energy expansion, including solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects.

New Delhi: NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has been officially categorized as a Schedule ‘A’ Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) by the Government of India, marking a significant milestone in the company’s growth within the renewable energy sector. The official communication regarding the upgraded status was issued on October 28, 2025.

Recognition of Strategic Importance

The elevation to Schedule ‘A’ status reflects NGEL’s strategic importance, robust financial performance, and expanding operations in India’s clean energy landscape. This recognition underscores the company’s contribution toward advancing the nation’s renewable energy transition and reinforces its role as a key player in achieving India’s sustainability goals.

Driving India’s Renewable Energy Goals

Headquartered in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, NTPC Green Energy is spearheading NTPC Group’s initiatives in solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects. The company plays a pivotal role in helping NTPC achieve its ambitious target of 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.

The Schedule ‘A’ categorization is expected to enhance NGEL’s operational autonomy, allowing greater flexibility in decision-making, faster project implementation, and improved competitiveness in the renewable energy sector.
