Bongaigaon/New Delhi: NTPC Bongaigaon marked the successful completion of the fourth edition of its flagship Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2025 with a vibrant cultural programme and de-registration ceremony held on July 30 at its Salakati township. Conducted under the Government of India’s Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, the month-long residential programme empowered 40 young girls from nearby communities through a blend of academic learning, life skills, and exposure-based education.
Empowering Dreams Through Education and Exposure
NTPC Limited’s Regional Executive Director (ER-II), Arindam Sinha, graced the valedictory event and lauded the initiative as a testament to NTPC’s deep-rooted commitment to girl child empowerment. He praised the participants for their spirit, enthusiasm, and talent displayed during the cultural showcase.
Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, Arnab Maitra, served as the Guest of Honour and emphasized the transformative nature of the programme. He credited the collaboration between NTPC, local administration, and families for its continued success in nurturing young minds.
Symbol of Freedom: Bicycles and Celebrations
One of the event’s standout moments was the distribution of bicycles to all 40 participants, symbolizing empowerment through mobility. The event featured diverse performances ranging from a Mahabharata-based skit to traditional Bihu and Bodo folk dances, yoga displays, fusion dance, Operation Sindoor act, and an exhibition of handmade crafts.
Certificates and framed journey photographs were presented to each participant by dignitaries including Arindam Sinha, Arnab Maitra, Rupali Sinha, and Kasturi Maitra, President of Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club.
GEM 2025: Holistic Learning for Holistic Growth
From July 1 to 29, participants were trained in Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, and vernacular languages. The curriculum also included yoga, computers, dance, life skills, crafts, clay painting, and sports. Awareness sessions on menstrual health and fire safety were conducted by experts and CISF personnel. Field visits to government offices, sports complexes, and the Bodoland Silk Park offered real-world exposure.
Visitors included senior NTPC leadership such as Shivam Srivastava (Director, Fuel), Rachana Singh Bahl (Executive Director, Strategic HR), and dignitaries from the Pollution Control Board, Assam, and Kokrajhar district administration.
Scaling Impact Nationwide
Since its inception in 2022, NTPC Bongaigaon’s GEM has empowered 160 girls over four years with an annual intake of 40. Launched by NTPC in 2018, the GEM initiative has reached over 11,000 girls across India, reflecting the PSU’s broader social vision.
