In preparation for the potential impact of Cyclone Dana, the Odisha government has assigned six IAS officers to oversee rescue and relief efforts in six districts that are expected to be the most affected. According to an order issued by the Office of the Special Relief Commissioner, the officers have been tasked with ensuring smooth operations in the districts they are assigned to.

The officers appointed for this crucial responsibility include K Sudarshan Chakravarthy (Balasore), Trilochan Majhi (Bhadrak), Balwant Singh (Puri), Vineet Bhardwaj (Mayurbhanj), Yamini Sarangi (Jagatsinghpur), and Samarth Verma (Kendrapara). They have been instructed to arrive in their respective districts by the morning of October 23 to coordinate emergency measures.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that a well-marked low-pressure area over the East-central Bay of Bengal had developed into a depression as of the morning of October 22. It is projected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 23 and further strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal by early October 24. The storm is expected to make landfall between Puri in Odisha and Sagar Island in West Bengal between the evening of October 24 and early morning of October 25.

The IMD has issued a red alert for seven districts—Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur—for the period between October 24 and 25. Additionally, seven other districts, including Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, and Ganjam, are under an orange alert for the same period.
