The Odisha government announced on Wednesday, that it has extended the tenure of YB Khurania, the state’s Director General of Police (DGP), until August 16, 2026. This extension ensures that Mr. Khurania will fulfill the required two-year term as Odisha’s top police officer, following his appointment as DGP on August 16, 2024.

According to an official notification from the Home Department, the extension aligns with guidelines set by a Ministry of Home Affairs directive issued on May 18, 1977, which mandates a minimum tenure for DGPs.

Before assuming his current role, Mr. Khurania had been on Central Deputation, serving as the Special Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) Western Command. His return to Odisha and subsequent appointment as the state’s DGP occurred shortly after his repatriation to the Odisha cadre.
