New Delhi: MiniMines Cleantech Solutions has received grants from Oil India Ltd, ACT, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to expand refining and recycling of critical minerals in India. The combined funding of Rs 4.3 crore will support process engineering, plant commissioning, and commercial validation of recycled battery-grade materials.
Advancing Critical Mineral Circularity
With these grants, MiniMines aims to move into continuous processing and commission a full-scale plant. This will shorten lead times for battery-grade raw materials, enable circularity of critical minerals with end-use industries, and reduce lifecycle emissions compared to conventional primary mining and processing.
Innovative and Sustainable Technology
MiniMines specializes in extracting and refining critical metals from end-of-life lithium-ion batteries. Its technology produces materials at industrial purity while using only a fraction of the carbon footprint of traditional extraction methods.
By converting used batteries into high-purity feedstock, MiniMines helps reduce India’s reliance on imported raw materials and strengthens domestic manufacturing. The recovered minerals include nickel for green hydrogen, copper for electronics, and sulphates for fertilisers, supporting multiple strategic sectors.
National Critical Minerals Mission Alignment
The collaboration with Oil India and international partners underscores a commitment to building a circular, resilient, and sustainable critical-minerals supply chain in India.
The milestone will positions MiniMines at the forefront of India’s efforts to secure critical minerals and directly advance the objectives of the National Critical Minerals Mission, says an official.
