Duliajan: In a significant step toward sustainability and carbon footprint reduction, Oil India Limited (OIL) and Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 17, 2025, for the sale and purchase of Carbon Dioxide (CO₂).
The MoU was signed at OIL’s Headquarters in Duliajan by Mr Rupjyoti Phukan, Resident Chief Executive (FHQ), OIL, and Mr Nalini Kanta Buragohain, Chief General Manager (Corporate Affairs), NRL, in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.

Under this strategic partnership, NRL will set up carbon capture facilities at its Hydrogen Unit to extract CO₂. The captured carbon dioxide will then be supplied to OIL to support its ongoing Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects.
This collaboration marks a significant step in the commitment of both organizations to reduce their carbon footprint and move toward net-zero emission goals. The initiative aligns with India’s broader climate targets and reinforces the role of industry-led carbon management solutions in combating climate change.
