Leadership Update: Padavittan Babu Appointed Director (Production & Marketing) of MIDHANI for Five-Year Term

New Delhi: The Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, has officially appointed Mr. Padavittan Babu, General Manager (Technical Services), as the Director (Production & Marketing) of Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI). The appointment was communicated through an official letter dated October 3, 2025.

Mr. Babu will assume the new role in the pay scale of ₹1,60,000 – ₹2,90,000 (IDA) for a tenure of five years, effective from the date of assumption of charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

A Veteran Technocrat in Strategic Metallurgy

Mr. Padavittan Babu brings with him a wealth of experience in technical services, production planning, and project execution within the defence metallurgy sector. As General Manager (Technical Services) at MIDHANI, he played a pivotal role in enhancing the company’s manufacturing capabilities, aligning with the goals of indigenization and self-reliance under the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative.

His leadership in managing high-performance materials critical to defence, aerospace, and nuclear applications has earned him recognition as a committed technocrat with deep domain expertise.

Key Responsibilities Ahead

As Director (Production & Marketing), Mr. Babu will oversee MIDHANI’s end-to-end production activities, ensure timely delivery of strategic materials, and spearhead marketing efforts to expand the company’s domestic and international footprint. He is also expected to play a crucial role in modernizing manufacturing infrastructure, adopting advanced production technologies, and driving customer-focused strategies to meet the growing demands of India’s defence and aerospace sectors.

Government’s Focus on Strengthening Leadership in Defence PSUs

This appointment reflects the Ministry of Defence’s focus on placing experienced professionals in key leadership roles across its Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) to boost efficiency, innovation, and global competitiveness. The selection of Mr. Padavittan Babu is seen as a step towards strengthening MIDHANI’s role in India’s strategic manufacturing ecosystem.
