Patna: Patna’s Marine Drive is witnessing a surge in tourist interest thanks to the newly launched double-decker bus service, which has quickly become a favorite among both local residents and visitors. Operated by the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC), the service offers a unique way to explore the city’s scenic JP Ganga Path while enjoying panoramic views and cool river breezes.
Route and Tourist Experience
The bus travels along JP Ganga Path, from Digha Ghat to Kangan Ghat, covering notable landmarks such as JP Ganga Path Golambar, Sabhyata Dwar, Darbhanga House, Gandhi Ghat, Mahatma Gandhi Setu, and Chitragupt Mandir. Passengers can enjoy a 360-degree view from the upper deck, while a trained guide provides commentary on the city’s historical and cultural sites.
Passenger Statistics and Revenue
Since its launch in September 2025, the double-decker bus has carried 2,245 passengers, generating revenue of ₹2,14,900 for the tourism department. The bus currently operates with 40 seats, split evenly between 20 air-conditioned seats on the lower deck and 20 upper-deck seats. The fare is ₹50 per person one-way and ₹100 per person for a round trip.
Facilities and Operation Timings
The bus is equipped with a toilet, refrigerator, and onboard guide to enhance passenger comfort. Presently, it runs from 5 PM to 10 PM, but during the winter season, timings will be extended to 10 AM to 8 PM, allowing tourists to enjoy the Ganga Path under the mild warmth of the sun.
Future Plans and Expansion
Officials from BSTDC have stated that depending on the bus’s continued popularity and positive public response, the number of double-decker buses may be increased. For now, one bus is in operation, accommodating 40 passengers per trip and offering an exciting new way to experience Patna’s riverside attractions.
