The 2008 batch Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Pee Lee Ete (AGMUT cadre) has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General of Forests (DIGF) at the Regional Office of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in Shillong. Pee Lee Ete’s appointment is on a tenure deputation basis under the Central Staffing Scheme of the ministry. 

Ete brings a diverse background in forestry and environmental management. Hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, Ete holds a Master’s degree in Forestry and has served in various forest departments across the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, and Mizoram. 

Ete’s extensive field experience across ecologically rich and sensitive regions is expected to add significant value to the ministry’s work in the Northeast, a region known for its biodiversity, forest cover, and unique environmental challenges. 

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) is the nodal agency in the Indian government for planning, promoting, coordinating, and overseeing environmental and forestry programmes. It is tasked with the conservation and survey of India’s flora and fauna, management of forests and wilderness areas, pollution control, sustainable development in the Himalayan ecosystem, afforestation, and combating land degradation. The ministry also oversees the administration of India’s national parks and protected areas. 

In the new role, Ete will be responsible for regional coordination and implementation of the ministry’s environmental and forestry policies in the Northeastern states. Ete’s appointment is seen as a move to further strengthen the ministry’s outreach and effectiveness in the ecologically vital and diverse region. 

In an another development, Abdul Qayum has been designated to the post of Assistant Inspector General of Forests, New Delhi on deputation basis under the Central Staffing Scheme of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). He belongs to 2013 batch IFS officer of AGMUT cadre.

He is an IIT Kanpur grad and holds doctorate in Bio-informatics from the JNU New Delhi. He is an Innovator, Scholar & an Environmental enthusiast. He is very passionate about climate change and how it impacts the worlds & wild life. His extensive professional journey encompasses a diverse array of domains, including Environment, Forests, Wildlife, Forest Fire, Research, Ecotourism, Remote Sensing/GIS, Predictive Modeling, Science & Technology, Renewable Energy, Malaria Epidemic, Wetlands, and Water Resources, among others.
