Bengaluru: Tejas Networks, a leading optical and data networking products company, announced today that it has been awarded a major Telecom Capacity Augmentation Project by PowerGrid Teleservices Limited (PowerTel), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL).
Next-Generation SDN-Based DWDM Network
Under the project, Tejas Networks will design, supply, install, test, commission, and integrate a 400Gbps DWDM system at new greenfield sites and upgrade existing links. The deployment marks a major step in modernizing PowerTel’s national telecom backbone using software-defined networking (SDN)-based DWDM technology.
High-Capacity TJ1600 Platform for the Backbone
Tejas will deploy its state-of-the-art TJ1600 DWDM/OTN platform, a multi-terabit optical transport system capable of delivering up to 1.2Tbps per wavelength. The product supports advanced alien wavelength technology, enabling seamless interoperability across multi-vendor optical line systems and offering a flexible, future-proof foundation for high-capacity transport networks.
Strategic Collaboration to Meet Growing Bandwidth Demand
Commenting on the announcement, Arnob Roy, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Tejas Networks, said:
“We are delighted to extend our long-standing partnership with PowerTel to augment the backbone capacity of their pan-India DWDM network. This upgrade will help meet the exploding demand for high-bandwidth connectivity from data center providers, telcos, government, and large enterprises.”
He added that Tejas’s pioneering alien wavelength solution provides a cost-effective path for telecom operators to boost capacity on existing infrastructure, improve supply chain diversity, and accelerate service rollout. Roy emphasized that with over a decade of experience perfecting this technology, Tejas is among the few optical networking companies globally to have commercially deployed alien wavelengths at scale across complex, multi-vendor environments.
