New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has emerged as the successful bidder for a key intra-state transmission project in Maharashtra under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route. The company received the Letter of Intent (LoI) on February 11, 2026, as per its regulatory filing with NSE and BSE.
The project is titled “Network Expansion Scheme in Maharashtra for Removal of Transmission Constraints in Pune Region-I (765/400 kV AIS Pune East)” and will be executed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis.
Project Scope and Infrastructure Development
The awarded project involves significant transmission infrastructure development in Maharashtra, including:
- Establishment of a 765kV/400kV AIS substation in Ahilyanagar district
- Construction of 765kV and 400kV transmission lines within the state
- Bay extension works at existing substations
The project is aimed at removing transmission bottlenecks in Pune Region-I, a rapidly growing industrial and urban hub.
Boost to Pune Region’s Power Infrastructure
Pune and its surrounding industrial areas have witnessed sustained growth in electricity demand, driven by expanding manufacturing, IT infrastructure, and urbanization.
The new transmission network is expected to:
- Enhance power evacuation capacity
- Strengthen grid reliability

- Improve overall intra-state transmission efficiency
