Prashant Kumar Singh has been appointed as Chief Secretary of Manipur. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the repatriation of Prashant Kumar Singh to his parent cadre in Manipur, where he will take charge as the state’s top bureaucrat. A seasoned IAS officer of the 1993 batch, Mr. Singh’s appointment follows the recent elevation of former Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi as Higher Education Secretary at the Centre.
Singh brings with him a wealth of experience in governance, having most recently served as Secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Over the years, he has held several pivotal roles, including Chief Executive Officer of the Government e-Marketplace, a landmark initiative under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Academically, he boasts impressive credentials with a degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi and a master’s degree in Public Policy and Sustainable Development from TERI University.
His return to Manipur comes at a decisive juncture, as the state grapples with ongoing ethnic tensions and political unrest. Tasked with navigating these turbulent times, Singh’s appointment is widely seen as a strategic move, with hopes pinned on his ability to steer the administration towards stability and foster meaningful resolution to the state’s pressing issues.
