Thiruvananthapuram: Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited (VISL) for the development of a Container Freight Station (CFS) near Vizhinjam International Seaport in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
The agreement marks a significant step in strengthening India’s port-led logistics ecosystem and enhancing multimodal connectivity in southern India.
MoU Signed in Presence of Kerala Leadership
The MoU was signed on February 23, 2026, in the presence of:
- Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala
- V. N. Vasavan, Minister for Cooperation & Ports
- Kowsigan, Secretary – Shipping & Ports, Government of Kerala
- Sanjay Swarup, CMD, CONCOR
- Ms G. Gayatri, Area Head (South), CONCOR
The agreement was formally signed by Mr. A. Vijuvin, Cluster Head (Chennai), on behalf of CONCOR and Ms Divya Iyer, Managing Director, VISL.

Key Highlights of the Proposed CFS
The proposed Container Freight Station will be developed in the vicinity of Vizhinjam International Seaport. VISL will provide land for the project on mutually agreed terms.
The CFS is expected to include:
- Customs-bonded areas
- Warehousing facilities
- Container handling and storage yards
- Import-export cargo handling infrastructure
- Weighbridges and allied logistics systems
Following the MoU, both parties will enter into a detailed agreement outlining operational and commercial terms.
Strategic Importance for India’s EXIM Trade
Vizhinjam International Seaport is emerging as a major deep-water transshipment hub and a gateway for global maritime trade. The development of a modern CFS near the port is expected to:
- Strengthen hinterland connectivity
- Improve cargo handling efficiency
- Support India’s export-import (EXIM) trade growth
- Build an integrated logistics ecosystem in Kerala
The collaboration aligns with CONCOR’s strategy to expand rail-led multimodal logistics infrastructure and provide seamless end-to-end supply chain solutions.
