New Delhi: In a landmark move to strengthen rail-based agricultural logistics, the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) has successfully transported a full rake of perishable cargo from New Ancheli, Gujarat, to Adarsh Nagar, Delhi. This initiative underscores the growing reliance on rail corridors for efficient, long-distance, and time-sensitive movement of agricultural produce.
Seamless Transport of Fresh Chikoo
The consignment, dispatched by Amalsad Vibhag Vividh Karyakari Sahakari Khedut Mandli Ltd., consisted of 15 parcel vans (VPs) loaded with fresh chikoo. Operated under DFCCIL’s Mumbai Unit, the movement demonstrates the benefits of rail logistics for farmer collectives transporting perishable commodities over long distances.
Transported at a freight value of approximately ₹75,000, this shipment highlights the cost efficiency, predictability, and scalability of rail transport compared to conventional road logistics, which often involve higher fuel consumption, toll charges, and delays due to congestion. By leveraging the Dedicated Freight Corridor, farmers can ensure faster delivery, reduced spoilage, and better quality produce reaching urban markets.

Multimodal Logistics Integration
DFCCIL’s model combines first-mile and last-mile road connectivity with high-capacity rail transport for the long haul. This seamless multimodal logistics chain minimizes handling complexities, optimizes transit time, and improves overall supply chain reliability, particularly for sensitive and perishable agricultural products.
The rail-based system enables bulk aggregation of produce, reducing logistics costs for farmers, enhancing access to distant high-demand markets, and improving price realization. Consumers also benefit from timely availability of fresh produce, promoting both efficiency and food quality in urban markets.

Supporting National Logistics and Agri-Infrastructure Goals
This development aligns with the Government of India’s PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, which emphasizes building an integrated, efficient, and sustainable logistics ecosystem. By connecting production hubs in states like Gujarat to consumption centers such as Delhi, DFCCIL is playing a pivotal role in strengthening the nation’s agricultural supply chain infrastructure.
The initiative also reinforces DFCCIL’s commitment to supporting farmers, promoting rail-based logistics adoption, and advancing India’s goal of cost-effective and eco-friendly transportation for bulk commodities.
