Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) across India marked World Environment Day 2025 with vibrant events, pledges, and awareness campaigns, aligning with this year’s global theme “Ending Plastic Pollution” and the unifying slogan “Together we can #BeatPlasticPollution.” Various activities were held to reaffirm their commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible practices.
SJVN Celebrates with Competitions and Awareness Initiatives
SJVN observed World Environment Day 2025 at its Corporate Headquarters in Shimla as well as across all its project sites. As part of the celebration, Mr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), administered the Environmental Conservation pledge to all employees, underlining the company’s dedication to sustainable and eco-friendly practices.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sharma highlighted that SJVN has continuously made efforts to nurture nature and protect the environment. He emphasized that environmental protection should be a collective and individual responsibility to secure a sustainable future.
To mark the occasion, various competitions such as Quiz Competition, Origami Contest, and Best-out-of-Plastic Waste Competition were organized for employees at the headquarters. Mr. Sharma awarded the winners of these contests, and Mr. Chander Shekhar Yadav, Executive Director (HR), along with other senior officials, graced the event. As a gesture promoting green consciousness, saplings were distributed to dignitaries, encouraging the message of green living.
In continuation of their environmental stewardship, SJVN conducted a special e-waste collection drive, successfully collecting around 30 kilograms of electronic waste for environmentally responsible disposal.
KIOCL Reaffirms Environmental Commitment at Mangaluru and Bengaluru Units
KIOCL Limited, a Government of India enterprise, celebrated World Environment Day 2025 in its true spirit across all its units. At the Pellet Plant Unit in Mangaluru, Chairman and Managing Director Mr. M.V. Subba Rao stressed the importance of the 2025 theme on plastic pollution, while also referencing the 2020 theme of “Biodiversity – Time for Nature,” which reflects the need for infrastructure that supports all life on Earth.

Mr. Rao, along with senior officers, planted saplings in the Pellet Plant premises. In his address, he emphasized the importance of healthy living and the environment’s critical role in daily life—providing air, food, and more. He remarked, “The difference between animals and humans is that animals adapt to the environment, but humans change the environment to suit themselves.”
At the Corporate Office in Bengaluru, Mr. S.K. Gorai, Director (Finance), noted that World Environment Day is a significant occasion to inspire people worldwide to protect the planet and address pressing environmental challenges. Director (Commercial), Director (Production & Project), and other senior officials joined the sapling plantation drive held on the premises of the corporate office.
NTPC Leads with Multi-Location Celebrations and Large-Scale Participation
NTPC Talcher Super Thermal Power Station, Kaniha, celebrated World Environment Day 2025 on June 5 with enthusiastic participation and a shared mission to combat plastic pollution. The day began with the administration of the Environmental Pledge in Hindi and Odia by Mr. Ch. Satya Rama Krishna, GM (O&M), and Mr. Ramesh Kumar Ekka, Regional Officer, OSPCB (Angul), respectively.

Both officials underscored the urgency of environmental conservation, highlighting the importance of adopting eco-friendly lifestyles and eliminating single-use plastics to safeguard the planet for future generations.
Mr. S.S. Rao, GM (Maintenance & ADM), delivered a special address featuring a message from NTPC’s Director (Operations), which reaffirmed the company’s enduring commitment to sustainability and its leading role in minimizing plastic waste throughout its operations.
A significant initiative launched on the day was the Cloth Bag Distribution Campaign, encouraging alternatives to single-use plastics. This was followed by the felicitation of children from the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) for their artistic contributions that reflected environmental themes.
One of the main highlights of the event was the Mass Tree Plantation Drive, organized within the NTPC Kaniha Township, focusing on planting medicinal and fruit-bearing trees. This initiative stood as a living testimony to NTPC’s green vision and long-term ecological responsibility.
A series of competitions were held involving employees, homemakers, and children, aiming to raise awareness about pressing environmental issues, promote eco-friendly behaviors, and discourage single-use plastics. The event saw active participation from HODs, Sectional Heads, CISF personnel, members of the Tanvi Sangam Ladies Club, employee unions, executive associations, school principals, and children of the GEM program — reinforcing NTPC Kaniha’s role in community-driven environmental stewardship.
At NTPC Unchahar, the day was celebrated through a series of activities including a walkathon that witnessed energetic participation from NTPC and CISF employees, family members, and senior officials. Mr. Abhay Kumar Srivastava, Executive Director (Unchahar), administered the oath to protect the environment. In his address, he emphasized the importance of ensuring a plastic-free zone within the NTPC campus to provide a healthier environment for future generations.

Executive Director Mr. Srivastava, accompanied by Mrs. Anupama Srivastava, President of Priyadarshani Ladies Club, Mr. Asutosh Biswas, General Manager (O&M), Mrs. Jhumita Biswas, Vice President of Priyadarshani Ladies Club, as well as executive associations, union representatives, department heads, NTPC employees, CISF personnel, and township residents, took part in a sapling plantation drive involving fruit-bearing trees across the township premises.
The event also featured the enthusiastic participation of 120 girls aged 12–14 years from nearby villages currently enrolled in the residential Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) program under NTPC’s CSR initiative. Prizes were distributed to winners of various competitions organized by NTPC’s Environment Department, adding further excitement and engagement to the day.
