New Delhi: Parminder Chopra, the current Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Power Finance Corporation Ltd. (PFC), has been assigned the additional charge of Chairman and Managing Director of REC Ltd. for a period of three months. This prestigious move reflects Chopra’s exceptional leadership in India’s power and financial sectors, reinforcing her role as a key figure in shaping the nation’s energy financing landscape.

Smt. Chopra made history on August 14, 2023, when she became the first woman to lead India’s largest Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC), PFC. Her remarkable career also includes serving as Director (Finance) at PFC since 2020 and holding the additional charge of CMD from June 1, 2023. Her tenure at PFC has been marked by historic financial milestones, including the highest-ever net profit, the strongest net worth, and the lowest NPA levels in the company’s history.

Chopra has been instrumental in driving PFC’s growth, overseeing key achievements such as securing a ₹1.12 trillion Liquidity Infusion Scheme (LIS) for the power distribution sector under the Atmanirbhar Bharat program. She has also played a pivotal role in the company’s transformation into India’s largest renewable energy financier, focusing on clean energy initiatives, including funding for electric vehicles, biofuels, and hybrid renewables.

In addition to her work at PFC, Smt. Chopra’s visionary leadership has positioned her as a key player in India’s energy sector reforms. As she takes on the additional responsibility at REC Ltd., her wealth of experience and strategic foresight is expected to drive synergies between PFC and REC, further strengthening India’s power and infrastructure financing ecosystem.

Smt. Chopra’s distinguished career spans over 35 years, with significant contributions at leading power and financial sector companies, including NHPC Limited and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. Her expertise in resource mobilization, treasury management, asset-liability management, and stressed asset resolution is well regarded across the industry.

Academically, Smt. Chopra holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Delhi University, is a qualified Cost and Management Accountant, and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management. She has also received advanced executive training in Risk Management and Global Management from prestigious institutions such as Harvard University and the European School of Management.

Her outstanding contributions to business, finance, and society have earned her numerous accolades. In 2023, she was honored as the ‘Icon of the Year’ by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India and was conferred the “Finance Leader of the Year” award.

As Smt. Chopra assumes additional responsibilities at REC Ltd., her leadership is expected to bring about transformative changes in the power sector, with an emphasis on sustainable energy financing, innovation, and financial excellence.
