Chandigarh: In a significant reshuffle aimed at strengthening Punjab’s law enforcement and intelligence network, the state government has appointed two experienced Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to key leadership positions.
Dr. Nanak Singh Named DIG – Border Range, Amritsar
Dr. Nanak Singh, a 2011-batch IPS officer of the Punjab cadre, has been appointed as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Border Range, Amritsar, replacing Satinder Singh. The posting comes shortly after his promotion and recent elevation, for which he had been awaiting assignment.
Dr. Singh has previously held crucial field and intelligence roles in Punjab and is known for his disciplined command style and focus on public safety. The Border Range, headquartered in Amritsar, plays a critical role in managing India’s western frontier with Pakistan, often dealing with cross-border smuggling, arms and narcotics trafficking, and infiltration threats. His posting is expected to strengthen operational coordination in the region.

Dhruv Dahiya Appointed AIG – Counter Intelligence, Punjab
Dhruv Dahiya, IPS officer of the 2012 batch, has been appointed as Assistant Inspector General (AIG) – Counter Intelligence, Punjab, headquartered in Chandigarh. He replaces the current incumbent and takes over a crucial portfolio in state internal security.
Dahiya returns to the state cadre following his central deputation at the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Ministry of Home Affairs, where he served as Joint Deputy Director. His tenure at the IB has equipped him with strategic experience in national security, counter-terrorism, and intelligence coordination—skills that will now aid Punjab in managing complex internal threats, particularly in sensitive zones vulnerable to radicalization and cross-border influence.
Strategic Importance of the Roles
Both postings are viewed as critical to Punjab’s law and order apparatus:
- The Border Range DIG oversees districts adjacent to the international border and is pivotal in joint operations with the BSF and intelligence agencies.
- The AIG Counter Intelligence is responsible for monitoring and neutralizing internal threats, including terrorism, narcotics networks, and anti-national activities.
These appointments come amid a renewed focus on countering trans-border crime, narco-terrorism, and organized syndicates operating in the region.
