In a major administrative move, the Punjab government on Friday, April 25, 2025, suspended Mr. Surender Pal Singh Parmar, a 1997-batch IPS officer, who was serving as the Chief Director of the Vigilance Bureau, SAS Nagar. The suspension has been enforced with immediate effect.
Mr. Parmar’s suspension comes on the grounds of grave misconduct and dereliction of duty, as stated in the official order. During his suspension, he has been directed to remain at the headquarters of the Director General of Police, Punjab, in Chandigarh and is restricted from leaving without prior approval from the competent authority.
Senior IPS officer Mr. Praveen Kumar Sinha, a 1994-batch officer of the Punjab cadre, has been assigned additional charge of the post. Mr. Sinha is currently posted as ADGP, NRI Affairs, SAS Nagar, and also holds additional charge as ADGP, Intelligence.
The development is especially notable given that Mr. Parmar was only appointed as Chief Director of Vigilance on March 26, 2025 — marking an abrupt end to a tenure that lasted less than a month.
