Mohali: Punjab Minister for Industry & Commerce, Investment Promotion, Local Bodies, and Power, Sanjeev Arora, announced plans to develop a modern multi-purpose Exhibition and Convention Center (ECC) near Palksha University and the Infosys campus in Sector-83, Mohali. The project aims to position Punjab as a prime destination for investment, business, and international events.
Project to Boost Investment and Global Events
Minister Arora highlighted that this initiative is being launched under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The ECC is envisioned to make Punjab a preferred hub for global events and investments, strengthening the state’s business ecosystem.
Public-Private Partnership Model
The convention center will be developed on approximately 14 acres in Mohali IT City through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. With an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore, the project will be executed by Exhicon Events Media Solutions Limited, with a concession period of 15 years.
Two-Phase Development Timeline
The ECC project will be completed in two phases:
- Phase 1: By December 31, 2026
- Phase 2: By December 31, 2027
State-of-the-Art Infrastructure
The center will feature:
- Large column-free exhibition halls: ~40,000 sq. ft. and two key halls of 15,000 sq. ft. each
- Retail, food, and beverage zones: 15,000 sq. ft.
- Parking facility for approximately 1,000 vehicles
- World-class landscaped public spaces and event areas
The facility will host conferences for 5,000 to 10,000 participants, trade fairs with 200–500 booths, large corporate events, cultural programs, and social gatherings accommodating up to 15,000 people.
Modern Design and Safety Features
Minister Arora stated that the ECC will incorporate:
- Advanced structural systems, MEP, AV, and IT infrastructure
- Compliance with National Building Code (NBC) standards
- Fire safety measures and green 5-star sustainable design
Employment Generation and Economic Impact
The ECC is expected to be a game-changer for Punjab, attracting investments, enabling global events, and creating substantial employment opportunities. The project is projected to generate 15,000 to 25,000 jobs in the first five years.
