Chandigarh: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has confirmed the suspension of senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and former Vigilance Chief, Mr Surinder Pal Singh Parmar (Punjab cadre, 1997 batch) until June 23, 2025, as per an official communication addressed to the Chief Secretary of Punjab.
The suspension was approved under Rule 3(1) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, following a formal request by the Punjab Government through a letter dated May 5, 2025.
As part of the disciplinary proceedings, the MHA has also directed the Punjab Government to issue a charge-sheet to the officer by June 23, 2025, and to forward a copy to the ministry for official records. This action signals that formal charges are likely to be framed soon, though specific allegations have not been disclosed at this stage.
The suspension and forthcoming disciplinary action suggest that the officer is facing serious administrative scrutiny, though further details remain confidential.
