RailTel has launched an over-the-top (OTT) platform named WAVES for Prasar Bharati, marking a significant step in India’s digital content delivery. Unveiled at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, WAVES offers a diverse mix of content, including archives from Doordarshan and All India Radio, live TV, movies, shows, podcasts, e-books, and games. The platform is accessible on Android, iOS, connected TVs, Firestick, and Chromecast, with RailTel managing operations and a multilingual 24×7 call center for five years.
WAVES integrates cutting-edge features such as hyperlocal e-commerce, app-in-app collaborations with other OTT platforms, and support for high-resolution content up to 4K. Powered by advanced AI, it provides personalized recommendations, multilingual transcription and translation in over 20 languages, and usage analytics. The platform accommodates up to 10 million concurrent users initially, scalable to 100 million, and ensures copyright protection through a robust digital rights management system.
With support for various content formats and compatibility across major platforms like Google TV and Apple TV, WAVES blends traditional and modern media to meet evolving audience needs. This initiative highlights Prasar Bharati’s commitment to digital transformation, redefining content consumption in India.
