Jaipur: Chief Secretary V Srinivas, a 1989-batch IAS officer, on Tuesday emphasized that central deputation is not only a cadre requirement for Indian Police Service (IPS) officers but also a crucial opportunity for professional growth. Speaking at an interaction with IPS officers eligible for central deputation via video conferencing at the secretariat, he said that experience gained at the Centre ultimately strengthens state administration.
Career Guidance for IPS Officers
During the interaction, Srinivas urged officers to make timely and well-considered career decisions, encouraging them to contribute actively to central services when eligible. He highlighted that serving at the Centre offers officers a broader perspective on governance, policy-making, and administrative coordination, which can later be applied to enhance effectiveness in state roles.

DGP Rajeev Kumar Sharma Stresses Mandatory Exposure
Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma added that IPS officers from the 2011 batch onwards must complete at least two years of central deputation at the SP or DIG level. He described this experience as essential exposure before appointment to senior leadership positions within the state police.

Officials from the personnel department provided officers with detailed briefings on:
- Eligibility norms for central deputation
- Tenure requirements
- Procedural guidelines for applying
This ensured officers were well-informed about both the career benefits and administrative obligations associated with deputation.
