Ranchi: In a major push to promote tourism, the Ranchi district administration has taken significant steps to develop the city into a leading tourist destination and establish it as the ‘City of Waterfalls’ at the national level.
The decisions were taken during the joint annual meeting of the District Tourism Promotion Council, chaired by Deputy Commissioner and Council Chairman Manjunath Bhajantri at the Collectorate auditorium.
Vision to Make Ranchi a National Tourism Hub
During the meeting, officials reviewed the current status of major tourist destinations and emphasized the need to strengthen infrastructure and visitor facilities. The administration aims to position Ranchi as a top tourism hub in Jharkhand, leveraging its natural beauty, especially its famous waterfalls.
The focus will be on improving accessibility, safety, and overall tourist experience.

Solar Lighting to Improve Tourist Experience
To enhance convenience and promote eco-friendly tourism, the administration has decided to install solar-powered lighting at all notified tourist sites.
This initiative will:

- Improve overall visibility and infrastructure
Strengthening Safety Measures at Tourist Spots
The district administration has placed strong emphasis on tourist safety.
Key decisions include:
- Installation of information boards at all major locations
- Display of police station, health center, and emergency contact details
- Improved coordination for quick emergency response
These steps are expected to ensure a safe and secure environment for visitors.
Focus on Marshali Hill and Religious Tourism
Special attention was given to the development of Marshali Hill, where proposals include:
- Installation of high mast lighting
- Development as a major tourist attraction
Additionally, the administration has recommended land acquisition for the expansion of the historic Deori Temple, aiming to provide better facilities for devotees and boost religious tourism.
Revamp of Major Tourist Attractions
The meeting also emphasized the comprehensive development of Ranchi’s key tourist spots, including:
- Dassam Falls
- Hundru Falls
- Jonha Falls
- Tagore Hill
- Rock Garden
Planned improvements include:
- Better road connectivity
- Clean drinking water facilities
- Construction of toilets
- Seating arrangements for visitors
- Enhanced safety infrastructure
Tourism to Drive Local Economy and Jobs
Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri highlighted that tourism is not just about natural beauty but also a key driver of local economic growth.
He directed all departments to:
- Ensure timely implementation of projects
- Maintain high quality standards
- Work in coordination for effective execution
A technical committee will also be formed to inspect proposals and assess their feasibility before implementation.
