The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed R Lakshmi Kanth Rao as Executive Director (ED), effective immediately. Mr. Rao, who previously held the position of Chief General Manager-in-Charge in the Department of Regulation, will now oversee functions including Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation, Right to Information Act (FAA), and Department of Communication.
With over three decades of experience at the RBI, Mr. Rao has worked extensively in areas such as regulation of banks and NBFCs, bank supervision, and consumer protection. His previous roles include serving as Banking Ombudsman at RBI Chennai and as Regional Director of Uttar Pradesh at Lucknow. Mr. Rao has also contributed to policy formulation as a member of various committees and working groups.
