New Delhi: In a significant boost to conservation efforts in one of India’s most iconic wildlife reserves, REC Foundation, CSR arm of REC Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Kaziranga Tiger Conservation Foundation (KTCF), extending a CSR grant of ₹5.43 crore to support green infrastructure in Kaziranga National Park.
The agreement, formalized on July 3, will fund the installation of solar power plants and Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems across multiple anti-poaching camps within the UNESCO World Heritage site, enhancing both energy access and clean drinking water for frontline forest staff.
Leadership from REC and Kaziranga Present
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Mr Jitendra Srivastava, Chairman and Managing Director, REC Limited. The MoA was officially signed by Ms Sonali Ghosh, IFS, Field Director of Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve and Chairperson of KTCF, and Pradeep Fellows, Executive Director of REC Foundation.
A Strategic Move Toward Sustainable Conservation
The grant represents REC Foundation’s broader commitment to environmental sustainability and wildlife protection through its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
“This partnership aims to strengthen conservation infrastructure while integrating renewable energy and water solutions in ecologically sensitive areas,” the foundation said in a statement.
Kaziranga’s anti-poaching units operate in remote and challenging terrain, often without reliable electricity or access to safe drinking water. The introduction of solar-powered systems and RO water units will significantly improve working conditions for field staff and bolster their ability to protect endangered species, including the famed one-horned rhinoceros, tigers, and elephants.
Kaziranga’s Growing Need for Infrastructure Support
Located in Assam, Kaziranga National Park is home to some of the highest densities of tigers and rhinoceroses in the world but continues to face threats from poaching, encroachment, and climate vulnerabilities. Improved infrastructure for anti-poaching camps is a critical need, often cited by conservationists and local authorities.
This latest collaboration is a milestone in public-private partnerships aimed at preserving India’s biodiversity, and it is expected to set a precedent for future CSR initiatives aligned with ecological and wildlife conservation goals.
