Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, has reaffirmed India’s leadership in the renewable energy sector, expressing confidence in achieving and surpassing the 500 GW renewable energy target by 2030. Speaking at the Regional Review Meeting on Renewable Energy in Jaipur, he stressed the critical role of renewables in meeting the nation’s growing power demand, which is expected to double by 2032.
The meeting reviewed renewable energy progress in Northern Region states, including Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. Joshi highlighted India’s strong commitment to the Panchamrit goals announced at COP26 and its advancements in green hydrogen development. He also pointed to substantial investments of ₹32 lakh crore in the renewable energy sector, further bolstering India’s position as a global front-runner.
Rajasthan emerged as a key contributor, with the central government approving an additional 5,000 MW under the PM Kusum Scheme and inaugurating 1,200 MW of solar projects in Jaisalmer. The event highlighted the importance of union-state collaboration to ensure collective progress.
Incentives for rooftop solar installations were distributed to Discoms across the Northern Region. Rajasthan’s Jodhpur and Ajmer Discoms received ₹39.43 crore and ₹17.59 crore, respectively, for their efforts between 2021 and 2024. Other states, including Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh, also benefitted.
The event saw participation from Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Minister of State Yesso Naik, and energy ministers from Northern states.
