New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a major financial package to strengthen the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) as part of the government’s broader vision to transform the capital into a clean, developed, and pollution-free city.
The financial assistance includes thousands of crores for road development, sanitation modernization, school upgrades, and community infrastructure. The Chief Minister emphasized that empowering local bodies like the MCD is essential for ensuring holistic urban development in the national capital.
₹1,330 Crore for Road Construction and Repair
To improve road infrastructure and control dust pollution, the Delhi government has prepared proposals worth ₹1,330 crore for the financial year 2026–27.
Under this initiative:
- Nearly 1,000 kilometers of roads (less than 60 feet wide) will be constructed, repaired, and strengthened.
- The focus will be on reducing dust pollution, which significantly worsens during October–November after the monsoon season.
CM Gupta has directed officials to complete major projects in a time-bound manner, with a target to ensure execution by September 30, 2026. Administrative processes will be fast-tracked, and transparency in the tendering process will be maintained to ensure timely completion.

₹2,300 Crore Plan to Modernize Sanitation System
In a major step toward improving cleanliness and reducing pollution, the government has approved a ₹2,300 crore long-term sanitation modernization plan under a 10-year OPEX model.
Key measures include:
- Deployment of 70 new mechanical road sweeping machines to enhance dust removal.
- Introduction of 1,000 electric litter pickers to improve efficiency and promote eco-friendly waste management.
These machines will work alongside existing systems to ensure more effective cleaning of roads and public spaces. The Chief Minister stated that this initiative will serve as a long-term solution to urban pollution challenges.
₹50 Crore for MCD Primary School Upgrades
Prioritizing education, the Delhi government has allocated an additional ₹50 crore to upgrade MCD primary schools.
The funds will be used for:
- Strengthening school infrastructure
- Improving sanitation facilities
- Modernizing classrooms
- Creating a better learning environment for students
The move aims to enhance the quality of education in municipal schools and ensure improved facilities for children from economically weaker sections.
₹50 Crore for Community Building Renovation
An additional ₹50 crore has been earmarked for the repair and renovation of approximately 298 community halls operated by the MCD.
These community centers are widely used by low-income families for weddings and social functions. The government believes that upgrading these facilities will significantly improve access to affordable public spaces in local colonies.
Strengthening Local Governance for Delhi’s Future
CM Rekha Gupta stated that the financial support is not merely budgetary assistance but an investment in Delhi’s future. The government aims to accelerate development works, significantly reduce pollution levels, and improve the overall quality of life for citizens.
With a combined allocation of approximately ₹3,680 crore, the Delhi government’s latest initiatives reflect a comprehensive strategy focused on infrastructure strengthening, environmental sustainability, better education, and enhanced civic amenities.
