New Delhi: NLC India Ltd. (NLCIL), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal, has reported a 48.09% year-on-year increase in profit after tax (PAT) for the first quarter of FY26. The company posted a PAT of ₹839.21 crore for the quarter ending June 2025, up from ₹566.69 crore in Q1 FY25.
Total income for Q1 FY26 stood at ₹4,115.85 crore, reflecting a 12.99% growth from ₹3,642.65 crore in the same quarter last year. Revenue from operations also rose by 13.25% to ₹3,825.61 crore.
NUPPL Performance and Capex Achievement
Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Ltd. (NUPPL), a joint venture of NLCIL, contributed ₹642.29 crore in operational revenue for the quarter. NLCIL also achieved a capex of ₹1,925.62 crore in Q1 FY26—113% of its quarterly target of ₹1,708.88 crore.
Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated NUPPL’s Unit-1 (660 MW) of the Ghatampur Thermal Power Station to the nation during this quarter. Additionally, oil synchronization of Unit-2 (660 MW) was successfully completed.
Strategic Approvals, Projects & Diversification
Several key developments marked the quarter:
- CCEA Approval: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved a ₹7,000 crore investment in NLCIL’s subsidiary NIRL, beyond the Navratna investment ceiling.
- BESS Project Awarded: NIRL secured a 250 MW / 500 MWh Battery Storage System (BESS) project from TNGECL under the VGF scheme.
- Renewable Energy Expansion: Received LoA from NTPC to set up a 450 MW ISTS-connected wind-solar hybrid power project.
- Critical Minerals Mining Entry: NLCIL was declared the preferred bidder for two phosphorite and limestone blocks in Chhattisgarh—marking its foray into critical minerals.
- MoU with IREL (India) Ltd.: NLCIL signed a pact to jointly work in the critical minerals sector.

Environmental & Regulatory Milestones
Key regulatory and environmental clearances included:
- Forest Clearance: Stage-II clearance granted for the Pachwara South OCP of NUPPL by MoEF&CC.
- Land Acquisition Progress: Notifications under CBA (A&D) Act, 1957 issued for Machhakata and North Dhadu coal blocks.
- Overburden Utilization: Tamil Nadu government permitted disposal and M-Sand production from mine overburden dumps.
