Lucknow: A retired IAS officer, Manmohan Chaudhary, and his wife, Saraswati Chaudhary, have been receiving death threats in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar Extension area following a dispute over a leased property. The victim couple has filed a complaint at the Gomti Nagar Extension police station, alleging threats, verbal abuse, extortion, and land grabbing. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

LDA Plot Allotted in Wife’s Name

The property in question is an LDA plot, number 4/16, allotted in the name of Saraswati Chaudhary. After receiving approval for a building plan, the couple constructed a house on the plot.

Lease Dispute and Non-Payment of Rent

A part of the house was leased to Mohammad Asad for five years at a monthly rent of Rs. 1.50 lakh, with the lease registered at the Sub-Registrar’s office on December 10, 2024. According to the Chaudharys, Asad failed to pay rent for any of the months under the agreement.

Threats and Verbal Abuse by the Accused

On August 23, 2025, the retired officer, accompanied by his wife and architect, arrived at the house and was confronted by Mohammad Asad, Aryan Singh, Dr. Salim Akhlaq, and two bouncers. The group allegedly verbally abused the couple, threatened them with physical harm, and used casteist slurs, causing Manmohan Chaudhary to faint.

Fake Agreement Allegations and Lease Cancellation

The victim claims that Asad and Dr. Salim Akhlaq attempted to create a fake, unregistered agreement in violation of the original registered lease, which prohibited subletting to third parties. The registered lease was formally canceled on September 17, 2025, in the presence of both parties before the Sub-Registrar V, Lucknow. Following the cancellation, threats against the couple reportedly intensified.

Ongoing Threats and Extortion Attempts

Since the lease cancellation, Aryan Singh and Dr. Salim Akhlaq are accused of continuously threatening the Chaudharys over the phone and via WhatsApp. On September 27, 2025, the accused allegedly demanded Rs. 1 crore near Janeshwar Mishra Park while hurling abuses.

The victim has demanded strict legal action and the registration of an FIR against Dr. Salim Akhlaq, Mohammad Asad, Aryan Singh, Ajay Kumar, and other unidentified individuals.

Police Action and Investigation

Gomti Nagar Extension police have registered a case and begun an investigation into the threats, verbal abuse, and alleged land grabbing. Authorities have assured the complainants that necessary measures will be taken to ensure their safety.
