New Delhi: Manish Raj Gupta, Director (Technical, Projects & Raw Materials) at Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has assumed additional charge as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) on Thursday, marking a new chapter in his distinguished career in India’s steel sector.
Strong Technical Foundation and Career Journey
A Mechanical Engineering graduate from MANIT Bhopal with a Postgraduate Diploma in Management, Gupta began his career with SAIL in 1991 as a Management Trainee (Technical) at Durgapur Steel Plant. Over nearly three decades, he gained extensive experience across multiple SAIL units, developing deep technical expertise and a track record of effective leadership.
At Durgapur, Gupta made significant contributions to plant operations, project execution, and equipment reliability, particularly in improving the efficiency of the Steel Melting Shop, while emphasizing safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Leadership Roles Across Key SAIL Plants
In 2019, Gupta moved to Bokaro Steel Plant as Chief General Manager, overseeing the Steel Melting Shops. Under his leadership, the plant executed major technological upgrades, process streamlining, and performance improvements, strengthening steelmaking efficiency.
He subsequently served as Executive Director (Works) at IISCO Steel Plant, leading initiatives in sustainability, cost optimization, and digitalization, aligning plant operations with SAIL’s strategic goals. Before assuming his current additional charge at RINL, he was Executive Director In-charge (Operations) at SAIL’s Corporate Office in New Delhi.
