Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday said that Uttarakhand is undergoing a transformative phase of development, largely driven by significant strides in road infrastructure. According to the CM, the state’s expanding network of all-weather roads, bypasses, tunnels, and modern bridges is not only physically linking remote areas but also bridging economic and social disparities between the hills and plains.
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), CM Dhami stated, “Continuous improvement in road connectivity in Uttarakhand has given a new pace to the state’s development. Now, with the construction of all-weather roads, bypass routes, tunnels, and modern bridges, the distance between hills and plains is not just geographical but is also shrinking economically and socially.”
‘Self-Reliant Uttarakhand’ Aligned With PM Modi’s Vision
The Chief Minister credited the rapid pace of infrastructure development as the foundation of a self-reliant Uttarakhand, a goal he said aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).
“The unprecedented work done in the field of road connectivity is the foundation of a self-reliant Uttarakhand and a strong step toward realizing the resolution of a ‘Developed India’ of the Hon’ble Prime Minister,” he added.
From All-Weather Roads to Economic Integration
Uttarakhand, a predominantly hilly state, has historically struggled with challenging terrain and inadequate road access. However, recent years have seen the implementation of several mega infrastructure projects, including Char Dham all-weather road projects, strategic border roads, and bypass tunnels in congested towns.
These projects are not just improving connectivity for tourism and security, but are also opening markets, increasing accessibility to services, and creating jobs, thus narrowing the development gap between rural and urban regions.
