Patna: In a significant push to boost tourism and preserve cultural heritage in Bihar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary announced that the state government has sanctioned ₹6.98 crore for the development of tourist infrastructure at Sitakund, a prominent religious site in Munger district.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to developing religious, historical, and natural heritage sites, Mr Chaudhary said, “Our endeavor is to promote employment and economic activities while protecting the heritage of such important places.”
Under the approved plan, ₹3.49 crore has been allocated for withdrawal and expenditure during the financial year 2025-26 as the first installment. The entire project is slated for completion within 12 months, promising enhanced facilities for both domestic and international tourists.
The development initiative includes construction of an entrance gate, toilet blocks, a dedicated parking area, designated shop spaces, a boundary wall, and overall beautification of the site. Additionally, new stairs and structures will be built around the sacred tank. The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation will implement the project.
Sitakund holds immense religious significance, believed to be the site where Goddess Sita underwent her agni pariksha (trial by fire) as described in the epic Ramayana. A warm-water spring at the site is said to have emerged where she stood – a phenomenon that continues to draw devotees and tourists alike. Also known as Ram Teertha, the site attracts visitors year-round, with a special surge during the Magh Mela.
“The government is taking concrete steps to develop Sitakund into a major spiritual and tourist hub, which in turn will open new avenues for local employment and regional development,” Mr Chaudhary added.
