New Delhi: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, has been awarded a significant railway electrification contract by South Central Railway. The company received the official Letter of Acceptance (LOA) for an advanced Overhead Equipment (OHE) upgradation project aimed at enhancing railway infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh.
Scope of the Project: Transition from 1x25kV to 2x25kV OHE System
The contract involves comprehensive design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning activities to upgrade the OHE system from 1x25kV to a more efficient 2x25kV configuration. This shift is part of a broader plan to strengthen the operational capacity and energy efficiency of the railway network.
The project will cover two vital railway segments:
- Duvvada – Rajahmundry section
- Samalkot – Kakinada Port section
Both lie within the Vijayawada Division, a key zone under South Central Railway.
Project Details: 195.5 Route Kilometers to be Upgraded
In total, the electrification and OHE enhancement work spans 195.5 route kilometers (RKM) and 391 track kilometers (TKM). In addition to the OHE upgrade, the project scope includes feeder and grounding installations — essential components to ensure electrical reliability and operational safety.
Compliance and Regulatory Declaration
RVNL confirmed that this contract falls under its ordinary course of business and aligns with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. As part of the regulatory protocol, the company submitted the standard disclosure as required under SEBI’s July 13, 2023 Circular, listed as Annexure-A in its official filing.
A Boost to Indian Railways’ Modernization Efforts
This contract further reinforces RVNL’s strategic role in the modernization of Indian Railways through focused infrastructure upgrades and electrification. By transitioning to a 2x25kV system, the project promises to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance the operational throughput of rail services in the region.
