New Delhi: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended S Sakthimani for the prestigious post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT), a prominent Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.
Currently serving as Director (Finance) at FACT, Sakthimani’s elevation comes after an interview round conducted by the PESB on October 3, where four candidates were evaluated.
Sakthimani Chosen From Among Top Contenders
The PESB selection panel interviewed four candidates for the post, including:
- Two from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL)
- One from NMDC Limited
- S Sakthimani, the in-house candidate from FACT itself
After due diligence and assessments, Sakthimani emerged as the top choice, owing to his extensive understanding of the company’s financial and operational framework.

From Director (Finance) to CMD: A Leadership Transition
Having served FACT as Director (Finance), Sakthimani has been closely involved in strategic financial planning, budgeting, compliance, and performance optimisation. His familiarity with the organisation’s internal systems and his vision for growth positioned him as a natural successor for the CMD role.
As CMD, he will be the Chief Executive Officer of FACT, accountable to the Board of Directors, the Government of India, and the shareholders. His responsibilities will include:
- Leading overall operations
- Ensuring profitability and sustainability
- Meeting corporate performance benchmarks
- Driving strategic initiatives and innovation
FACT operates two major units:
- Udyogamandal Complex
- Cochin Division
The company plays a vital role in supporting Indian agriculture, rural livelihoods, and the national economy through its industrial and chemical products.
Looking Ahead: Strategic Vision Expected
With Sakthimani at the helm, FACT is expected to:
- Strengthen its market share in the fertilizers and chemicals sector
- Leverage public-private partnerships for expansion
- Embrace sustainable and green manufacturing practices
- Focus on improving farmer outreach and customer service
His appointment awaits formal approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
