New Delhi: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has appointed Priya Ranjan as the new Director-in-Charge of its Bokaro Steel Plant. The announcement was made on Friday, following a regulatory filing by SAIL to the stock exchanges.
Appointment Details
Priya Ranjan was recommended for the post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) on 25 August 2025. The Ministry of Steel issued the official order on 23 December, and his appointment came into effect on 24 December. Prior to this promotion, Ranjan served as Executive Director (Works) at Bokaro Steel Plant, where he oversaw critical operational functions.

Educational Background and Professional Journey
An alumnus of BIT Sindri with a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Priya Ranjan also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management with a specialization in Finance from IMT Ghaziabad. He began his professional journey in the non-ferrous metals sector before joining SAIL in 1994 as a Junior Manager at the Steel Melting Shop of IISCO Steel Plant, Burnpur, West Bengal.
Over the course of three decades, Ranjan has held numerous senior positions within SAIL, including Executive Director (Operations) at the corporate office in New Delhi. His extensive experience spans steelmaking, production planning, corporate strategy, operations, mines management, logistics, and overseas projects, including a stint at ICVL in Mozambique.

Responsibilities at Bokaro Steel Plant
As Director-in-Charge, Priya Ranjan will oversee operations at Bokaro Steel Plant, one of SAIL’s key production units. The plant plays a significant role in India’s steel production and contributes substantially to the company’s overall output. Under Ranjan’s leadership, the plant is expected to enhance operational efficiency, ensure quality production, and support SAIL’s strategic objectives.
