The long-standing salary discrepancy issue of Coal India (CIL) officers is on the brink of resolution. On Monday, the matter was heard in the Jabalpur High Court, which granted an 8-week deadline for the committee formed by the Coal Ministry to prepare a detailed report regarding the pay upgrade for officers.
The ongoing hearings are being held in response to the Supreme Court’s directions, which called for a review of the salary discrepancies. The last hearing, held on March 11, had set the next hearing for April 7, requiring the Ministry of Coal and the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) to file an affidavit.
At the hearing on April 7, the court allowed 8 weeks for the committee to finalize the report. The bench of Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Ket and Justice Vivek Jain, after hearing from the Ministry, DPE, and CIL counsel, noted that a committee had already been formed to address the salary issue. The court further emphasized that any disagreement with the report could be brought back to court for further review. The committee is required to follow the guidelines issued by DPE in November 2017.
In line with other Maharatna companies, the court gave the committee the necessary time to compile the salary-related report, granting a period of 8 weeks for submission, with the consent of all parties involved.
