New Delhi: In a significant decision, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a one-year extension in the tenure of Saurabh Garg (Retd. IAS:1991:OR) as the Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). His extended tenure will now continue until July 31, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued the formal notification on Tuesday, confirming that Garg will continue on a contractual basis, as per the existing terms and conditions.
Second Consecutive Post-Retirement Extension
Saurabh Garg was initially appointed as Secretary, MoSPI, on May 30, 2024, just two months before his superannuation on July 31, 2024. Recognising his domain expertise and administrative leadership, the government extended his tenure for one year from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025. This latest decision marks his second post-retirement extension, signifying continued trust in his leadership and policy direction.
