Vijayawada: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Special Court in Vijayawada on Monday rejected the bail petition of senior IPS officer N. Sanjay, who is currently facing charges of misappropriation of funds during his tenure in key police departments of Andhra Pradesh.
Background: Suspension and Custody
N. Sanjay, a senior IPS officer who previously served as the Director-General of Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Response and Fire Services and as Additional Director-General of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), was suspended in December last year following allegations of financial irregularities.
After the Supreme Court cancelled his anticipatory bail, the officer surrendered before the ACB court in August this year. He was subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
ACB Court Cites Ongoing Investigation in Denying Bail
Citing that the investigation is still in progress, the ACB Special Court denied Sanjay’s request for bail. Officials said that releasing him at this stage could potentially influence witnesses or affect the ongoing probe.
Sanjay is currently lodged in Vijayawada jail, where he has been held since his surrender.
