New Delhi: The Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), an apex body representing public sector enterprises, has commended the Ministry of Labour & Employment for introducing progressive reforms in the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). The reforms aim to make processes simpler, faster, and more transparent, significantly improving the Ease of Living for crores of EPFO members across the country.
Simplified Withdrawal Rules for Member Convenience
A key highlight of the reforms is the merger of 13 complex provisions into three simplified categories, making withdrawal processes more streamlined. The minimum eligible employment period for withdrawals has been reduced from up to seven years to one year, allowing members greater flexibility in accessing their funds.
Members can now withdraw up to 75% of the eligible amount at any time without documentation and opt for full withdrawal in special situations—a landmark move towards member empowerment and procedural ease.
Focus on Long-Term Financial Security
SCOPE appreciated the Ministry’s initiative to extend the premature final settlement period to 12 months, which is expected to encourage members to retain their funds longer and ensure better financial security.
Additionally, revisions in withdrawal benefit rules under EPS (Employees’ Pension Scheme) have been introduced to promote continuity of membership and strengthen future pension benefits.
Reinforcing Social Security and Welfare
These comprehensive and citizen-centric reforms reflect the Government’s commitment to inclusive social security, financial prudence, and the welfare of India’s workforce. By balancing accessibility with long-term benefits, the Ministry aims to empower employees while safeguarding their retirement security.
