Bilaspur: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a flagship subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has achieved a historic milestone by dispatching 1401 rakes of coal in August 2025. This marks a 34.45 percent increase compared to August 2024, when the company dispatched 1042 rakes.
Major Contributions from Mega Projects
SECL’s mega coal projects played a decisive role in this record performance. The Gevra project dispatched 268 rakes, Dipka contributed 202 rakes, and Kusmunda delivered 271 rakes. Additionally, the Raigarh area made a strong impact with 248 rakes dispatched to thermal power plants across India.
Consistent Growth in FY 2025–26
From April to August 2025, SECL dispatched 7699 rakes of coal, reflecting an 8.21 percent growth compared to the same period in FY 2024–25. Overall coal transport through railways recorded a 9.4 percent increase, further strengthening SECL’s role in ensuring reliable coal supply to the power sector.
Role of FMC Projects
First Mile Connectivity (FMC) projects have been instrumental in achieving this milestone. These projects enhance efficiency in coal transport, reduce logistics costs, and provide environmentally sustainable solutions. Currently, SECL is implementing 17 FMC projects with a combined capacity of 233 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). Of these, nine projects with a capacity of 151 MTPA are already operational, while the remaining eight projects with 82 MTPA capacity are progressing and expected to be completed within the next two to three years.
