Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking has appointed senior IAS officer S. V. R. Srinivas as its interim General Manager. The position had remained vacant for over a month following the transfer of former GM Anil Diggikar after the Kurla bus accident. Although Harshdeep Kamble was initially designated for the role, his appointment was later revoked.

A 1991-batch IAS officer, Srinivas brings over two decades of expertise in urban planning, transportation, and infrastructure. He has served in key roles within Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), and Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). Currently, he is the CEO of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project.
BEST, which manages Mumbai’s public buses and electricity supply, faces significant financial constraints, fleet modernization issues, and operational challenges. Srinivas’ leadership offers temporary relief, but union leaders stress the urgent need for a full-time General Manager to steer the organization toward sustainable and efficient operations. His appointment is seen as a crucial step in stabilizing Mumbai’s vital transport network.
