Senior IPS Officer Nawal Bajaj Appointed as New ATS Chief

From April 2017 to May 2019, Bajaj served as Inspector General of Police, Konkan Range.

Nawal Bajaj, a 1995-batch IPS officer, has been appointed as the chief of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Wednesday. This position had been vacant since late March, following the promotion of the previous ATS chief, Sadanand Date, to director general of the National Investigation Agency.

In May 2021, Bajaj was deputed to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), where he served as Inspector General. In January 2022, he was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as zonal director, a role he held until May 2024.

Bajaj, a Maharashtra cadre officer, has a notable service record in Mumbai, including positions such as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone One), Additional Commissioner of Police (South Region), and Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Branch). He was promoted to Inspector General of the Nashik Police Academy from 2014 to April 2017.

From April 2017 to May 2019, Bajaj served as Inspector General of Police, Konkan Range. He then returned to Mumbai as Joint Commissioner of Police (Administration) in 2019, a position he held until the first lockdown in October 2020.
