New Delhi: Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) announced the appointment of Ms. Shalini Pandit, an Odisha-cadre IAS officer, as the new Government Nominee Director on its Board, effective from December 3, 2025. The appointment follows the Central Government’s official notification, replacing Dr. Parshant Kumar Goyal, who has ceased to hold the position from the same date.
Shalini Pandit’s Appointment and Career Overview
In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on December 5, 2025, LIC confirmed the appointment of Ms. Pandit under Section 4(2)(d) of the Life Insurance Corporation Act, 1956. She currently serves as the Joint Secretary in the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance, a role she holds at the central government.
Her tenure as Government Nominee Director will continue until further orders or until her superannuation, whichever occurs first. Prior to her current position, Ms. Pandit held several prominent positions in the Odisha state government, including Secretary of the School & Mass Education, Health & Family Welfare, Mission Shakti, and Odia Language, Literature & Culture departments. She also served as the Mission Director of the National Health Mission and as the Labour Commissioner, contributing significantly to key administrative reforms and public welfare initiatives.
Notably, Ms. Pandit played a pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic in Odisha, overseeing the state’s response efforts, which earned her recognition for her leadership and crisis management skills. Her work in education reform and public health continues to be highly regarded.
Dr. Parshant Kumar Goyal’s Departure
As per the announcement, Dr. Parshant Kumar Goyal, who had been serving as the Government Nominee Director, has now vacated the position, effective December 3, 2025. LIC thanked Dr. Goyal for his contributions during his tenure and assured stakeholders that the transition would ensure continuity in the corporation’s governance and operations.
Ms. Pandit’s Academic Credentials
Ms. Pandit holds a Bachelor’s degree in Botany from Miranda House, University of Delhi, and an M.Sc. in Wildlife Science from the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun. She is widely acknowledged for her extensive administrative experience and commitment to public service. LIC clarified that Ms. Pandit is not related to any other members of the board.
LIC’s Regulatory Compliance and Commitment to Transparency
This change in the board composition is in line with LIC’s regulatory disclosure requirements under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
