SJVN Commissions Assam’s First 70 MW Dhubri Solar Project, Cuts 1.58 Lakh Tonnes of Carbon Emissions

First large-scale solar project in Assam, developed by SJVN Green Energy Limited, will generate 141 million units in the first year, support APDCL, and create local jobs while advancing India’s renewable energy targets.

Shimla: SJVN Limited, a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE), has successfully achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of its 70 MW Dhubri Solar Power Project in Assam. The project has been developed through its wholly-owned subsidiary SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) and marks a significant milestone in the company’s renewable energy expansion.

First Large-Scale Solar Project in Assam

The Dhubri Solar Power Project is the first utility-scale solar project in Assam and SJVN’s first operational project in the North Eastern Region. Located at Village Khudigaon Pt. II in Dhubri district, the project spans 330 acres of lease-based land and has been developed at a cost of ₹367.44 crore.

Power Generation and Supply Details

The 70 MW solar plant is expected to generate:

  • 141.13 million units (MU) of electricity in its first year
  • Around 3,230 million units over a project life of 25 years

The power generated will be supplied to Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) at a maximum tariff of ₹3.92 per unit, ensuring an affordable and clean power supply for the state.

Major Environmental and Economic Benefits

The Dhubri project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 1,58,270 tonnes, contributing significantly to India’s climate action goals. The project will also generate multiple direct and indirect employment opportunities, providing a boost to the local economy in Assam.

Aligned with India’s Renewable Energy Targets

The foundation stone of the project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 4, 2024, from Adilabad, Telangana. The project supports the Government of India’s target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
