New Delhi: State-owned power producer SJVN Limited has entered into a strategic partnership with Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla, to strengthen research and innovation in solar photovoltaic (PV) technology. The two institutions have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop an advanced solar PV research ecosystem focused on improving performance, reliability, and system life.
MoU Signed for Industry–Academia Collaboration
The MoU was signed in the presence of HPU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mahavir Singh and SJVN Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma. The agreement was formally executed by Prakash Chand, General Manager (Electrical Design), SJVN, and Gyan Sagar Negi, Registrar, HPU.
₹4.15 Crore Project with 36-Month Timeline
Under the collaboration, SJVN will provide a financial outlay of ₹4.15 crore for a 36-month research and development project. The research work will be carried out at HPU’s Centre for Green Energy and Nanotechnology (C-GENT).
Focus on AI-Based Predictive Diagnostics for Solar PV
The core objective of the project is to enhance the performance, reliability, and operational lifespan of solar PV systems. The research will leverage artificial intelligence-based predictive diagnostics to identify faults, improve efficiency, and support proactive maintenance of solar installations. The initiative is expected to drive innovation and contribute to the development of next-generation solar technologies.
Boost to India’s Renewable Energy and Sustainability Goals
This industry–academia partnership aligns with India’s broader clean energy and sustainability goals. By combining SJVN’s operational expertise with HPU’s academic and research capabilities, the collaboration aims to create scalable and practical solutions for the renewable energy sector.
