Leadership Updates: SJVN Recommends Rajesh Kumar Chandel as Director (Projects) Following PESB Selection

New Delhi: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Mr. Rajesh Kumar Chandel for appointment to the post of Director (Projects) at SJVN Limited, a Schedule ‘A’ Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power. The recommendation came during PESB Meeting No. 2/2026, held at 8:45 AM on Monday, January 19, 2026, as part of the selection process for the post.

Experienced Leadership Selected

Mr. Rajesh Kumar Chandel, who currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of SJVN Limited, was chosen after a rigorous interview process conducted by PESB. The board assessed his experience, strategic vision, and expertise in project execution and energy sector management before recommending him for the Director (Projects) role.

Interview Process and Shortlisted Candidates

A total of 12 senior officers from leading public sector power utilities were interviewed for the position. The candidates included top executives from SJVN Limited, NHPC Limited, and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), occupying positions such as Executive Director, Chief General Manager, General Manager, and Chief Engineer.

The shortlisted candidates were:

  • Mr. Ajay Kumar Singh, Executive Director (Corporate Planning), SJVN Limited
  • Mr. Rakesh Sehgal, Chief General Manager (Civil Design), SJVN Limited
  • Mr. Ajay Bhushan Dogra, General Manager, SJVN Limited
  • Mr. Prashant Sharma, Chief General Manager, SJVN Green Energy Limited
  • Mr. Mukesh Kumar Sharma, General Manager, SJVN Limited
  • Mr. Rajesh Kumar Chandel, Chief Executive Officer, SJVN Limited
  • Mr. Vikas Sharma, Chief General Manager, SJVN Limited
  • Mr. Amitabh Jha, Executive Director (Contracts – E&M), NHPC Limited
  • Mr. Aditya Gautam, Executive Director, NHPC Limited
  • Mr. P. L. S. S. Chaitanya Prakash, Executive Director (Projects), DVC

Next Steps for Appointment

The final appointment of Mr. Rajesh Kumar Chandel will be subject to approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) and completion of other procedural formalities in line with government guidelines. Once approved, Chandel will take charge of steering SJVN’s projects portfolio, including hydro, thermal, and renewable energy developments.
