In a significant development for Uttarakhand’s electoral administration, former IAS officer Sushil Kumar has been appointed as the State Election Commissioner (SEC). Kumar, who retired as Garhwal commissioner last year, assumed charge after an eight-month vacancy in the SEC post following the tenure conclusion of former SEC Chandrashekhar Bhatt.
Starting his career in the Provincial Civil Services (PCS), Mr. Kumar has held various pivotal positions within the state government. His appointment gains particular importance ahead of upcoming elections for urban local bodies (ULBs) and the three-tier Panchayati Raj system. Mr. Kumar brings a wealth of administrative experience to his new role, poised to oversee crucial electoral processes in Uttarakhand.
