New Delhi: In a significant reshuffle under the Central Staffing Scheme, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Thursday announced the central deputation of two senior officers – Tanvi Sundriyal (IAS:2010:MP) and Sumit Garg (IRS-C&IT:2015) – to key roles in the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Department of Defence, respectively.
Tanvi Sundriyal to Join Civil Aviation Ministry as Director
The competent authority has approved the appointment of Ms Sundriyal, a 2010-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, as Director in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, New Delhi, for a period of five years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
With over a decade of administrative experience, Ms Sundriyal is expected to contribute meaningfully as the Civil Aviation Ministry focuses on expanding airport infrastructure, airline policy reforms, and the regional connectivity scheme (UDAN).
Her appointment is part of the government’s broader strategy to place experienced bureaucrats in crucial policy-making roles as India’s aviation sector continues its rapid growth trajectory.
IRS Sumit Garg Appointed Deputy Secretary in Dept of Defence
In a parallel development, Mr Garg, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the 2015 batch (Customs & Indirect Taxes), has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Defence, New Delhi. He will serve a four-year term under the Central Staffing Scheme from the date of assuming charge or until further orders.
Garg’s appointment was recommended by the Department of Revenue, highlighting his proven expertise in tax and financial administration – skills that are likely to support defence procurement processes, budgeting, and institutional reforms within the Ministry of Defence.
