Hyderabad: C. V. Anand, a 1991-batch IPS officer and Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana, on Monday lauded the sustained efforts of the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) in combating Left Wing Extremism and facilitating the surrender and rehabilitation of underground Maoist cadres.
During a visit to the SIB office in Hyderabad, the DGP commended officers and staff for their critical role in weakening the Maoist movement through intelligence-based operations, confidence-building measures, and rehabilitation programmes.
DGP Appreciates Officers Who Encouraged Maoist Surrenders

He said the intelligence wing had made a significant contribution by combining strategic operations with humanitarian rehabilitation initiatives, helping many former extremists rebuild their lives.

During the visit, the DGP conducted a detailed review of the current Maoist situation and assessed ongoing anti-extremist operations and intelligence initiatives undertaken by the SIB to address security concerns in Telangana.
He also evaluated the progress of rehabilitation programmes designed for surrendered Maoists and assured continued support from the police department for their social and economic reintegration.
Focus on Skill Development and Employment Support

- Job-oriented programmes
- Employment opportunities
- Rehabilitation assistance
He emphasized that sustained support is essential to help former Maoists successfully reintegrate into society and lead productive lives.
SIB Asked to Adapt to Emerging Security Challenges
Referring to the significant decline of Maoism after nearly four decades, the DGP said the changing security environment has created new responsibilities for the intelligence wing.
He urged SIB officers to broaden their intelligence-gathering role and remain alert to emerging threats.
Anand also encouraged officers to study evolving social trends, particularly the growing influence of social media and its impact on society and security.
