Hyderabad: The Union Public Service Commission has reportedly shortlisted three senior IPS officers for appointment as the next Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana, with the state government now expected to choose one of the three names to head the state police force.
The shortlisting was completed during a high-level selection committee meeting held in New Delhi on March 11 in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines governing DGP appointments.
High-Level UPSC Committee Finalised the Panel
The selection meeting was attended by:
• UPSC Chairperson
• Union Home Secretary
• Telangana Chief Secretary
• Nominee of the Ministry of Home Affairs
The committee examined service records of six DG-rank officers sent by the Telangana government before narrowing the list to three names.

CV Anand (1991 Batch)
Currently serving as Special Chief Secretary (Home), Telangana
Vinayak Prabhakar Apte (1994 Batch)
Currently serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau
Soumya Mishra (1994 Batch)
Currently serving as Director General of Prisons, Telangana
CV Anand Seen as Leading Candidate
Among the shortlisted officers, CV Anand is widely considered the strongest contender.
Officials indicate he holds a clear advantage because:
• he is the senior-most officer among the three
• he has long state-level policing experience
• he has served in major urban policing assignments
Previous Key Postings Strengthen CV Anand’s Case
CV Anand has earlier served as:
• Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad
• Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad
These assignments are seen as highly relevant because of their complexity and operational importance.
Selection Based on Supreme Court Norms
The UPSC panel was prepared under Supreme Court directives, which require DGP empanelment based on:

Only officers with adequate residual service and eligible service profile are considered.
State Govt to Make Final Appointment
The Telangana government will now select one officer from the UPSC-recommended panel for appointment as the next state police chief.
